Visible Signs of Progress - Trees Removed
6/28/2004 2:00:00 PM
It occurred to us that we could be preparing the site for construction while still waiting for plan approval. THe builder will need access to the property so that he can demolish and rebuild major portions of the structure. That means that the row of hedges along Santa Anita Road , the Chinese Elm on Santa Anita and the Star Pine in our back yard would have to go. We were thrilled to have some show of progress.

Of course this is Santa Barbara so we needed a permit to remove the Chinese Elm. After many discussions with the City Arborist, Joan convinced him to issue us a permit as the tree service arrived to do the work. It took them just 2 hours to remove most of the vegetation over 12 inches tall. We spared the Australian plants on the El Prado side of the street but many of them will be potted and moved before the heavy work starts.

What did our neighbors say? The friendly ones were pleased to see some progress. The unfriendly ones haven't said a word, although one woman supervised the project from her property.

Yes, the image at the left let's you watch the tree crew topple our star pine. It was very interesting to watch.
